I love the box of this Sony Ericsson K800i, SE really payed a lot attention to these finer details, and although it doesn’t count for the phone performance, it’s an addition to the elegance and gives the consumer ideas about what’s inside…

When I booted up the phone, it vibrated, a feature that I can see now in most SEs. It takes a while to get ready and it asks you to select language, and it offers you something called ‘SIM Language’, and I don’t really know what that is.

It has dedicated camera buttons, but no light in them like in the Nokia N73. At first tries, the autofocus is fast and it works well, but the actual zoom doesn’t please me at all. Back cover camera slider activation is also available here, where you have to move the shutter down and the camera software will run. After playing around with the camera for a bit, I realised that it isn’t very good to operate such a camera with such a small display.

There is a 5-way joystick. When pressed left on standby mode, it goes to messaging options, up is music player, down is contacts and right is for shortcuts.
The Menu has a 4x4 grid with animated icons. For my surprise, the K800i does have a secondary camera, and 3G as well, so it has video call capabilities and a dedicated program for that in the menu.

The camera has quite a lot of options, something standard for these kind of cameras, it also has two top dedicated buttons, for extended modes, panoramas and picture modes.

In the menu, there is an entertainment program, where you can find certain DJ programs such as Picture DJ, Sound DJ and Video DJ. The Picture DJ program comes with Auto level, light balance, brightness and contrast, red eye removal, rotate, add effect. Video DJ let’s you trim videos and add text on them, which is quite cool if you want to sort of copyright your videos. Music DJ looks like a polyphonic ringtone maker. In the same entertainment program, you can still find video player, remote control, which I think it’s for controlling computers, but I didn’t test it, there is radio and games as well.

The Internet Browser has its startup page set as Google, there is a fullscreen mode and landscape as well.

The File Manager let’s you browse files and folders both in the memory card, which is a Memory Card Micro M2, and on the phone, and it can also combine them in one section, dividing them in Sounds, Pictures, Videos, etc.

A funny thing on the display is that there is some sort of two network indicators, I’m not sure why is that so, and I won’t check what they are because I am too lazy to read the instruction manual.

The memory card was quite dificult to remove, I had to use my pen to open the slot.

Another advantage of the camera is the powerful flash, which performed better than the N73 and the N93. Its sound is very loud and quite good, stereo speakers on the back, if I’m not mistaken.

There is also an infrared port in its right side, and its zoom keys can work as sound level keys as well.

Advantages: 3.2 Megapixel CyberShot camera with autofocus, good flash, decent sound, RSS Reader, many DJ applications for entertainment uses.

Disadvantages: No optical zoom, screen is too small, no Symbian OS.

Rating: 8.3/10
