Well I do know that Nokia 3250 isn’t a new phone and I don’t write the best reviews.

No I am not bored, it’s just the first OS9.1 i got in my hand and wanted to see what I can learn from it

Here are some pics, not that I took, but the ones I got off the net:

Click the pics to see in real size

The phone in reality doesn’t look as bad as in the pictures fortunately, also because I was quite excited when I got it.

The phone size it doesn’t really matter for me but I can say that it is quite thick but width and length are ok, its practicaly the size of my 6600 but the width is same as my 7710, i should’ve taken some pics, my bad i forgot, maybe next time!

The size isn’t heavy, it’s practicaly same size as other S60 devices, it’s something you can have in your poket without your pants falling and its comfortable in your hands.

I did take some home pictures with my kak 1 megapixel camera of my 7710, check them out:

The phone itself, well let’s see:

Startup quicker then expected, takes about 16 seconds with PIN acceptance included and the menu doesn’t take any time to load, unlike the OS7.

The response is quite fast, much better than the 6680 and N70, which has a processor of 220MHz so maybe this one could be faster, or maybe it’s just a software improvement.

I am quite disappointed with what Nokia did with the memory cards, I mean, changing the type from MMC to microSD, i mean, we were all so used to the MMCs, some of us spent quite some money on them and we had all our data on them and now they suddenly change it to another type. A 128mb microSD is supplied and you insert it when the keyboard is twisted to camera mode, it goes below the screen, quite a crazy opening but it’s cool, you have to do some sort of ‘safely remove hardware’ like in Windows, by pressing the power key and selecting ‘remove memory card’, all applications will be closed and then u can remove the card.

The internal memory is very very disappointing, having less than 10mb, is totally unacceptable to a phone nowadays, especially because of  Nokia’s competitor’s launching phones with more memory than ever. How are you suppose to store all those 2 megapixel mages, songs and videos, even though it has a memory card, phone memory is always necessary.

Also a cool thing is the twisting, actually very cool because everytime you twist the keyboard, a mode is entered, for example, when the dedicated music keyboard is in line with the screen, the music player app is started, when camera mode is activated, the camera app is started in horizontal view and in normal keyboard, all these apps minimize and the standbay screen comes up, what is called in other phones ‘telephone’.

Then we have the menu, which different from other OS versions, has 3*4 icons and displays a battery meter on top. Of course, this menu has a very fast responde like all the other features in the phone.

Unfortunately I did not have time to get apps for this phone and one very bad point of this OS version is that there is no backward compatibility and .sis files aren’t supported, instead, .sisx are.

The camera is very clear for a phone, well, it is 2 megapixel and takes 1600*1200 pixels pics, here’s one pic taken by this camera:

The video recording has the option of choosing the maximum performance which is 176*144 @ 15fps, nothing special about this unfortunately. The videos are played fullscreen.

The music player is definately one of the best parts of this phone, u have a fullscreen app and the speaker quality and sound is just amazing, it has stereo speaker.

U also have the option of connecting to 3.5mm jack with adaptor supplied to pop-port, and this adaptor has Play/Pause, Stop, Next track, Previous track buttons and on the side it has a lock mechanism and volume up/down buttons, quite stylish and useful, have your phone in the pocket and control music with that small device.

A pair of headphones is also supplied, which connect to 3.5mm jack, but didn’t attract me at all, volume wasn’t very loud.

Your USB cable provided can do many functions, and the best one is using the phone as a mass storage device (flash drive), at last you can transfer music in something like 6 seconds! You have to activate offline mode, but the phone does this for you. You can choose if you want phone to be used as music player, pc suite or data transfer.

Connectivities lack, I mean the 3G and WLAN, these days any new phone should atleast have 3G because fast internet has become very important in our lives. The 3250 has only got GPRS and a good fullscreen browser, webpages load nicely but I have heard reports that in OS9.1, the browser doesn’t support wap pages, and this is a very bad point.

The Bluetooth is very enjoyable because you hit speeds of  60kbps and it can reportedly connect to up to 6 devices at the same time, because it has Bluetooth v2.0, nice indeed. No infrared though.

The display has 262k colours which is acceptable for today’s phones and UI is S60 which we all love so much.

It takes a BP-5M battery and it should last 10 hours playin music when fully charged.

I don’t have the  RAM size but the phone responds in a fast way even when I have many apps running at the same time.

I am really sorry for not having a more complete review but I only had the phone to play with overnight and I had to hand it in the next day.

Overall good points: Good camera, twisting and style makes it attractive, dedicated music keys, a very good OS, very fast response.

Overall bad points: no 3G, no WLAN, no InfraRed, OS doesn’t have backward compatibility

My rating: 8/10
